Watch This Marine Crush the Space Force Fitness Test at 6000 Feet – menshealth.com

The Space Force might have had a mixed response when it was first announced as the latest branch of the U.S. military—to the point that it became the inspiration for a recent Netflix sitcom—but when it comes to the level of physicall fitness required of new recruits, it’s no joke. In a new video on Navy veteran and influencer Austen Alexander’s YouTube channel, Staff Sergeant Ariana Novoa from the U.S. Marine Corps takes on the fitness test that the Space Force use to screen soldiers for duty, overseen by Lieutenant James White

The test is administered at an elevated altitude of 6,000 feet in Lake Arrowhead, Colorado. But while Novoa admits to never having trained in elevation before, she is confident in her chances of acing it. The test consists of four rounds, interspersed by 3 minutes of rest:

  • 60 seconds of pushups
  • 60 seconds of situps
  • 20-meter high aerobic shuttle
  • 1.5-mile run

Novoa churns out 44 reps in a minute in the pushup round, which equates to just shy of a perfect score of 9.4 points. In the situp event, she manages 62 reps, which earns her a perfect score of 10 points and is 7 whole reps more than the 55 she would have needed to hit the max. “Damn, that’s more than one situp per second,” says Alexander. “That’s got to be some kind of record.”

Novoa shows no sign of fatiguing when it comes to the shuttle run, which tests acceleration and accuracy over several rounds of varying distance and speed. Novoa gains 20 points here, and would happily keep going, but Alexander calls it so that they can move onto the fourth and final test, the 1.5-mile run, which she completes in an impressive 9:16, which is equal to 60 points. At this point, however, she is completely exhausted.

“The altitude is no fucking joke,” says Novoa. “I feel like shit.”

Lieutenant White is hugely impressed by her near-perfect final score of 99.4 out of 100. “I think she’s fantastic,” he says. “The amount of effort and dedication she’s put in to maintaining her own fitness and health is something we should all strive for.”
