HOLLAND TWP. — Holland’s only roller skating center will reopen Thursday, Nov. 4, after six months of renovations under a new name: RollXscape.
The history of the building stretches back decades — many locals remember the building at 12521 James St. as Grand Roller Rink. The business was purchased in 2009 by Crystal and Tony Nolan, and eventually became known as The Rink.

The couple began fundraising efforts to save the business in 2020. In December, producers from “The Kelly Clarkson Show” reached out, wanting to feature the couple in a segment about businesses trying to make it through COVID-19. But several weeks later, the building was listed for sale.
It was purchased by Ben Fogg of Fogg Filler, a machining manufacturer in Holland Township. In March, ownership shared plans to use the 20,000-square-foot building as warehouse space divided into 5,000-square-foot units where tenants could store or work on items, including vehicles.
Although the Holland Township Planning Commission unanimously approved a special-use request, the Fogg family changed its mind after community members expressed their disappointment in the loss of the center.
“Their family reached out to my family to see if we’d be interested in operating and running it as a skating rink,” Timothy Price, co-owner of the new business, told The Sentinel in March.
Six months later, the building’s interior looks dramatically different. Dividing walls in the concession area and birthday room have been removed, as well as office space and old carpet squares. The restrooms have been expanded. The skating floor has been completely replaced and expanded to its original size.

To boot, the exterior of the building has a fresh paint job — including the new business’ signature green.
Public sessions will vary. For the month of November, the business is open Thursdays-Saturdays. Open skate is 6-8 p.m. Thursdays, 7-10 p.m. Fridays and 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., 3-5:30 p.m. and 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturdays. Adult skate is 8:30-11 p.m. Thursdays.
Admission varies from $8-10 per person, and skate rentals are $4.
