Rams vs. Titans final score, results: Jeffery Simmons leads defensive charge as Titans rout Rams without Derrick Henry – Sporting News

Even though they might not have had Derrick Henry for their Week 9 matchup against the Rams, the Titans did have defensive end Jeffery Simmons.

Simmons had three of Tennesee’s five sacks on the night and looked like the best defensive player on the field out of a group that included Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey as the Titans routed Los Angeles 28-16.

A poor offensive showing allowed Tennesee’s once-criticized defensive unit, led by Simmons, to capitalize. The Titans registered four tackles for loss and two interceptions, including a pick-six, in addition to those sacks.

The Titans’ offense was unremarkable, failing to even reach 200 total yards. To make matters worse, it was just 4 of 12 on third down and averaged just 3.5 yards per play. However, it did manage to turn it on when it mattered, as it was a perfect 3 for 3 in the red zone.

The team totaled just 69 rushing yards In Henry’s absence, including 21 yards and a touchdown from newly signed Adrian Peterson. The passing attack wasn’t much better as Ryan Tannehill was 19 for 27 for just 143 yards through the air.

The Rams’ offense put up better numbers — 347 total yards, 22 first downs and a win in time of possesion at 32:21 — but it wasn’t enough to overcome Tennesee’s defense and some self-inflicted blows. Los Angeles went just 4 of 15 on third down and was penalized 12 times for 115 yards.

The win moves the Titans to 7-2 and even more firmly atop the AFC South standings with home matchups against New Orleans and Houston in the coming weeks. The Rams, meanwhile, drop to 7-2 and are in second place in the NFC West behind Arizona.
