Mahomes goes full Mahomes to clinch win
Patrick Mahomes has been off in 2021, leading the NFL with 10 interceptions thrown entering Week 9. He wasn’t much better against the Packers, as he completed just 20 of his 37 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown for a 74.8 rating. But on third-and-10 with the game on the line, Mahomes mustered up the magic we’re so used to seeing from him, sprinting out to the right and launching a laser at the last second to Tyreek Hill for a first down. It wasn’t pretty, but the Chiefs secured their second straight victory.
Love throws first-career TD
Just as all hope seems lost for the Packers, Jordan Love found Allen Lazard on the left sideline. Lazard did the rest, ducking under a Chiefs defender and high-stepping into the end zone for the 20-yard touchdown.
Snead’s INT ends promising drive
It’s been a rough first-career start for Jordan Love, but he led the Packers on a 14-play, 68-yard drive to the edge of the red zone midway through the fourth quarter. Down 13-0, a touchdown would put pressure on the Chiefs to close out the victory. But on third-and-10, Love threw the ball up to Davante Adams, only it was L’Jarius Sneed who came down with the ball for the interception.
Game-winning FG!
Newly signed kicker Dustin Hopkins continues to reward the Chargers for picking him up in late October. In two games with Los Angeles, Hopkins has hit four of his five extra points and all three of his field goals, including a 29-yarder to beat the Eagles as time expired.
Another 49ers turnover
The 49ers’ offense has been able to move the ball, yet trails by two touchdowns early in the first quarter. That’s simply because San Francisco’s players can’t hold on to the ball. First George Kittle fumbled inside Arizona territory, and then Brandon Aiyuk did the same thing after making a difficult catch down the field.
Trickeration sets up Cards TD
Playing without Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins has resulted in the Cardinals getting creative, and their innovation worked to perfection late in the first quarter. Backup Colt McCoy faked the handoff, gave a pump fake and then flipped the ball to Christian Kirk running right. He then began to slow down and lofted the ball to Rondale Moore at the front-right corner of the end zone. Moore didn’t get in for the score, but James Conner did on the next play to put the Cardinals ahead two touchdowns.
Jags stun Bills!
The Bills closed as 15.5-point favorites at Caesars Sportsbook, yet the teams combined to score only 15 points in an ugly game in Jacksonville. The Jaguars won, 9-6. That’s because the Bills’ Josh Allen struggled mightily (three turnovers, four sacks taken), while the Jaguars’ Josh Allen dominated (sack, interception, fumble recovery). And in the end, Jacksonville’s defense was too much for Buffalo (yes, I know how that sounds), lifting Urban Meyer’s team to its second victory of the season.
Game-winning FG!
In classic Falcons fashion, they somehow gave up a 24-6 lead with fewer than 11 minutes to go in the game. But in non-Falcons fashion, they drove down the field in the final minute and won the game on Younghoe Koo’s 29-yard field goal as time expired.
Game-clinching strip sack!
The Giants are in the win column for the third time this season after Quincy Roche stripped Derek Carr in the game’s final moments and Leonard Williams recovered. The Raiders drop to 5-3.
Josh Allen recovers Josh Allen’s fumble!
You simply can’t make this up. Jaguars pass rusher Josh Allen now has a sack, interception and fumble recovery against … guess who? Josh Allen. The Bills quarterback has been sloppy all afternoon, allowing Jacksonville to maintain the lead in the game’s final minutes.
McKinney picks off Carr again
Derek Carr probably should have stopped throwing the direction of Xavier McKinney, because when he has, bad things have happened. McKinney picked off Carr for the second time late in the fourth quarter Sunday to preserve the Giants’ four-point lead.
One-handed TD catch
Despite facing deficits of 17-3 and 24-10, the Ravens have battled back to tie things up against the Vikings with about 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Devin Duvernay scored the game-tying score, tipping the ball to himself in the back of the end zone for the touchdown.
Josh Allen intercepts Josh Allen!
One Josh Allen was supposed to dominate Sunday’s matchup between the Bills and Jaguars, and it wasn’t the third-year pass rusher. Nevertheless, Jacksonville’s Josh Allen has been a game-changer with seven solo tackles (two for loss), a pass defended, a sack and, most recently, a gigantic interception to set up the Jaguars at the Buffalo 30-yard line.
Patriots D comes up big
The Patriots’ secondary fueled New England’s win over the Chargers last week, and it has come up big again in Carolina. The unit has intercepted Sam Darnold three times, with the second coming from J.C. Jackson, whose 88-yard touchdown return put the Patriots up double digits.
McKinney to the house
The Raiders are officially on upset alert after Xavier McKinney jumped right in front of Hunter Renfrow to intercept the pass and cruise the other way for a 41-yard score. Giants ahead 17-13.
Allen sacks Allen!
For the first time in NFL history, a player sacked another player with the same first and last name. In the final moments of the first half, Bills quarterback Josh Allen was looking to get Buffalo into field goal range. Jaguars pass rusher Josh Allen had different ideas, however, dragging his counterpart down for a 10-yard loss. Making matters more interesting, both players were selected seventh overall in back-to-back NFL drafts.
Revenge game INT!
Two games with the Panthers, two interceptions for the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore. His latest came against his former team, the New England Patriots, as he undercut the slant route to set Carolina up in enemy territory.
The Patriots have 126 total yards. through a quarter and a half against the Panthers. Fourth-round rookie Rhamondre Stevenson has 74 of them on just five touches, including a 41-yard reception and a 13-yard scamper. On the next play, Damien Harris powered through the line for a three-yard score.
Mike Gesicki twisting, one-handed grab
No one would have blamed Gesicki for not coming down with Jacoby Brissett’s errant pass, but the tight end made the backup quarterback look really good with this twisting, one-handed snag with a defender on his back.
Teddy Covers extends Denver’s lead
Teddy Bridgewater is 20-2 in his career as a road underdog, and he’s on his way to his 21st cover early on against the Broncos. His pristine pass to Tim Patrick down the left side resulted in a 44-yard touchdown and gave the Broncos’ a 13-0 advantage.
Direct-snap score
Myles Gaskin channeled his inner Ronnie Brown, taking the direct snap, surveying the line of scrimmage, finding a role on the right side and weaving into the end zone from six yards out. The Dolphins have the lead early in a battle between 1-7 teams.
Jefferson gets behind the defense
After an uninspiring performance in prime time against the Cowboys, the Vikings seemed to have regained their offensive aptitude early on versus the Ravens. It helps to have All-Pro Justin Jefferson, who flew behind the defense, caught Kirk Cousins‘ pass in stride and streaked into the end zone.
99-yard INT return TD
It looked as though the Bengals would strike first in a crucial AFC North battle, but on third-and-goal from the 3, Joe Burrow choreographed his pass to Ja’Marr Chase and Denzel Ward took advantage, jumping the route and taking it all the way back from a 99-yard touchdown to open the scoring.
Danny Dimes strikes first
Evan Engram had one receiving touchdown all of last season. He now has two in as many weeks, as he jumped over a defender to catch a 30-yard touchdown from Daniel Jones.
Betting market doesn’t see Tua’s absence as significant
When Packers future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers landed on the COVID-19 list earlier this week, the point spread moved about a touchdown in the Chiefs’ direction for the Week 9 showdown. The week prior, when receiver Davante Adams missed the Cardinals’ game with COVID, the line moved about a field goal in favor of Arizona.
Tua Tagovailoa is obviously not Rodgers or Adams, but him not starting the Texans’ game with a fractured finger had to move the point spread a decent amount, right? Apparently not.
As of Sunday morning, 1-7 Miami was listed as a 5.5 point favorite against 1-7 Houston. But since the news about the second-year signal-caller, thrusting veteran Jacoby Brissett into the starting role, the line has moved to Dolphins -4. And considering the point spread didn’t cross a key number (seven, six, four, three, etc.), gamblers do not believe Tagovailoa’s absence should have much of an impact on the overall result.
