Switzerland’s Simon Marquart and the United States’ Felicia Stancil took the men’s and women’s races on the fifth leg of the 2021 BMX Supercross World Cup in Sakarya in Turkey.
It is the first of four legs in the province, and the finish in the men’s race was taken down to thousandths of a second.
Marquart dipped France’s Joris Daudet on the line for the victory in a time of 33.971sec.
Daudet was second in 33.975.
A second Swiss rider made the podium, Cedric Butti, who was a few tenths back, having enough to hold off Colombians Vincent Pelluard and Mateo Carmona Garcia.
Italy’s Giacomo Fantoni, Colombia’s Diego Alejandro Arboleda Ospina and Dylan Gobert of France completed the field in the final.
Stancil was nearly a second ahead of silver medallist Eliska Bartunkova of the Czech Republic in a time of 37.656.
Bronze went to Molly Simpson of Canada, who completed the podium after edging out The Netherlands’ Laura Smulders in a photo finish.
Brazil’s Priscilla Andreia Stevaux Carnaval was fifth in front of the second Smulders sister, Meryl.
Colombian Mariana Pajon and Natalia Afremova of Russia were seventh and eighth.
