From toddlers to Olympians, Indy Cycloplex BMX track caters to all riders – IndyStar

From toddlers on strider bikes to riders competing for world championships, the small BMX park at Marian University has something to offer cyclists at every level.

The BMX track is open for practice every Thursday during riding season, giving young riders a chance to practice alongside Marian’s cycling team. Families come to the Indy Cycloplex — home to the Major Taylor Velodrome, a skate park and the BMX track — to practice together.

“It was always an intention to cater to all types of riders,” Michael Kubanscek said. Kubanscek serves as Marian University’s cycling coach and director.

The track is also home to Olympians. Felicia Stancil moved from Lake Villa, Illinois, to ride on Marian’s team. After graduating in 2018, she pursued a career in professional BMX racing and soon competed for national titles, world championships and Olympic medals, finishing fourth in the women’s BMX competition at the Tokyo Summer Games. Stancil has made a home in Indianapolis practicing at the Indy Cycloplex BMX track or traveling to various courses in Southern Indiana and Kentucky.
