After a weather-related postponement, the celebration of the new BMX track in South Sandwich is back on.
Cape Cod BMX will host a grand opening ceremony to celebrate its new race track on Saturday, October 16, beginning at 4 PM.
The event will include face painting, a bouncy house and raffles, in addition to the official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The motocross course, which is on a 7.5-acre plot of land behind the Pop Warner Football Field, was moved from Joint Base Cape Cod.
The well-supported community project began in May after base officials announced they were looking into other uses of the acreage that has been home to the track for the past 30 years.
While the weekend event will mark the official opening of the track, it has been in use since the end of August.
The rain date for this event is October 17.
