When the bottom of the sixth inning began with a flyout from Braves pinch hitter Orlando Arcia, Baseball Savant gave the Astros a 79 percent chance of winning Saturday’s game.
And why not? The Astros had led since the first inning and added a run in the top of the fourth. This postseason, teams that scored first were 27-7.
But the Braves had some magic for their home crowd. After Austin Riley drove in a run later in that bottom of the sixth, Dansby Swanson and Jorge Soler hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh to put Atlanta on top. The bullpen did the rest as Luke Jackson and Will Smith pitched scoreless innings, and just like that, the Braves had won Game 4 3-2 and taken a 3-1 advantage in the World Series.

The teams will play again Sunday in Game 5 (8:15 p.m. ET, Fox), with Atlanta having a chance to win its first title since 1995 in front of its fans.
Early on, this game felt as if it would be all Houston. The Braves, relying on a bullpen game because Game 1 starter Charlie Morton fractured his right fibula, turned to Dylan Lee to make his first MLB start. He did not last long; he loaded the bases with only one away, prompting manager Brian Snitker to turn to Kyle Wright in long relief. Wright allowed an RBI groundout to Carlos Correa but got the Braves out of the jam.
Wright gave up a solo home run to Jose Altuve in the fourth, but otherwise delivered a solid outing out of the bullpen, pitching 4 2/3 innings with just the one run allowed on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Houston was able to keep the Braves’ bats in check early behind a scoreless outing from Zack Greinke. He only allowed four hits — one in each of his four innings of work — with no walks, and he struck out three.
It wasn’t until the sixth that the Braves put a run on the board. With Eddie Rosario on second and Freddie Freeman on first with two out, Riley lined a single to left to drive in Rosario and then advanced to second on the throw home. The following inning, Swanson and Soler made history, becoming only the third teammates to hit the game-tying and go-ahead home runs in back-to-back fashion in World Series history.

The Astros now have to win three straight to avoid the series loss. They will turn to Game 1 starter Framber Valdez in Game 5, while the Braves are likely headed toward another bullpen game.
