Skating At Millennium Park, Big Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Are Back – Block Club Chicago

CHICAGO — The lighting ceremony for Millennium Park’s massive Christmas tree will return, the city announced Thursday.

The ceremony was held virtually last year, as officials sought to prevent crowds from gathering during the coronavirus pandemic. But the city plans to bring back the in-person event — as well as other traditional holiday celebrations — this season, according to a city news release.

The tree-light ceremony will be held 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at Millennium Park near Michigan Avenue and Washington Street. More details about the ceremony will be announced in coming weeks.

Skating at the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink — which was allowed last year — will start back up Nov. 19, with the season running through March 6 as weather permits. People can skate for free, but online reservations will be required and skate rentals will cost money. More details on skating will be announced in coming weeks.

An old event, Caroling at Cloud Gate, will return as the Millennium Park Holiday Sing-Along. Chicagoans will be able to join together and sing holiday tunes 6 p.m. Fridays Nov. 26-Dec. 17. The series “has been reimagined to be more inclusive of Chicago’s many faith backgrounds, cultures and holiday music traditions,” according to the city.
