Brookings figure skaters host annual Krispy Kreme Fundraiser – Brookings Register

BROOKINGS – Skaters from the Brookings Figure Skating Club will host their popular Krispy Kreme Fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 11, in Brookings. Doughnuts will be made fresh early that morning in Omaha and rushed to Brookings for pick-up, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts will be sold for $12 per dozen. Through Sept. 6, orders can be placed in advance with any figure skating club member or online at http://www.bit.ly/KrispyKreme2021. Preorders may be picked up in the Brookings Radio Station parking lot from 8:30-10 a.m. on Sept. 11.

A limited quantity of same-day doughnut sales will be available while supplies last at the radio station, as well as the Back In Motion Chiropractic parking lot, just west of McDonald’s on Sixth Street. Hours for same-day sales are 8:30-11 a.m. or until all the doughnuts are gone.

The club is offering free in-town deliveries for anyone who purchases doughnuts to honor or thank someone else.

“We started our Heroes program last year during the pandemic, and we loved being witness to all the folks who wanted to thank staff at hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living centers, as well as teachers and coaches,” said Trish Matson Buus, skater mom. “What a great way to give twice – once to support the skating club, and once to thank someone deserving with a surprise treat.”

To thank a hero with doughnuts, simply preorder and contact your favorite club member to let them know your wishes.

“This is a very important fundraiser for our small club, and it helps us raise a substantial portion of our annual operating budget, and we are very appreciative for the community’s support,” said Chris Cass, Brookings Figure Skating Club president. “Each year, we sell out, even though we increase the quantities, so we really encourage ordering in advance to guarantee your doughnuts before they are gone.”

The Krispy Kreme Fundraising program was created in 1955 to provide a way for qualifying community organizations to raise funds for their worthwhile causes. According to the Krispy Kreme Fundraising website, it helped organizations raise approximately $37 million last year alone to support charitable initiatives.

The Brookings Figure Skating Club is dedicated to promoting the sport of amateur figure skating, providing continual education and training opportunities for its members, and instilling good sportsmanship. The club provides an a la carte approach to recreational and competitive programming to help encourage each skater to achieve his or her own goals in a safe and healthy environment.

For more information or to inquire about joining, visit the “Brookings Figure Skating Club” page on Facebook or call the club’s fundraising chairperson, Rebecca Barber, at 605-638-0996.
