Looking for some fun? Try roller skating at Storybook Gardens – CBC.ca

If you’re looking for a fun outdoor activity for the whole family, Storybook Gardens has got you covered.

The City of London facility is launching a roller skating rink this Tuesday, using the Humpty Dumpty trail usually enjoyed by families during the winter on ice skates.

“We have the 250 metre skating trail, and we have a partnership with Retrol Rollers, which usually operates out of the North London Community Centre but they can’t right now because of COVID,” said Johnny Prior, guest services manager for Storybook Gardens, located in Springbank Park.

“We’ve been looking for new pre-registered programs and we’re happy to support this here at Storybook.”

Retro fun

The retro fun comes at pretty retro prices: A $3 admission to the park, plus $5 to rent a pair of roller skates. Everyone must pre-register.

“On Sundays we have a slot we’re calling mini-rollers, for families with young kids who want to come out and just give it a try, and parents can walk on the trail with their children,” Prior said.

“We’re looking at doing some fun 70s or 80s themed nights, with music and lights to go along with it.”

People have been cooped up and are itching to try something new, Prior said.

“We want to be able to give people an opportunity to come out and get back in the recreation, get back into feeling safe, being outdoors again,” he said.
